Elle, you are a good writer, but every essay you write has the same victim theme: with my privileged background, I should not have to live in this neighborhood; I deserve better; my ex and his parents ruined my life; he squandered his fortune.

It is time to square your shoulders, muster up some self- determination, and develop a cogent plan instead of bemoaning your fate. The world does not owe you anything. Chart a course, take the reins of your own life, don't let the past be the predictor of your future. From a practical standpoint, I offered some suggestions for leveling-up your skill set in response to another commenter. You will feel so much better about yourself once you established a positive direction.

I'm a college-educated professional, but I learned while working in a restaurant staffed by women who had been incarcerated for substance abuse offenses and treatment that I'm not any better than anyone else. I've had more advantages than some, and I somehow followed a good path. I speak to you as someone who has experienced both sides of the coin.
